Safe Fat Loss vs. Toxic Fat Loss

Rapid weight loss can cause rapid aging and if you do it right, there are a few things you can do that will ensure your efforts will yield the results you’re after…

1. Guard against muscle loss: oft times rapid weight loss results in a reduction in size and not so much the fat, (this is a lot of the reason our metabolism slows down). When we have a sudden drop in calories and we carry this new calorie schedule out long enough, our body will accommodate this by burning off however much muscle it needs to, to adjust to this low level of calories, this is what we know as slowing down our metabolism. This is simply our body’s survival mechanism that works with us in famine conditions so as to extend our life until we can find food. Remember our vital organs are made up of these highly metabolically active tissues as well and can lose their strength as well. This is how bad weight loss will result in aging a person, physical and organ strength drop off due to a loss of protein when your body slows your metabolism down during extended crash diets.

Our muscle (protein parts of the body) is highly metabolically active tissue and burns a lot of energy, so a large part of the health of our metabolism depends on our retention or our gain of muscle. When we build muscle and tone, we build our body’s capability of burning calories faster! And when we build muscle, we gain good shape instead of the droop. This is what disappoints many with the results they see after rapid weight loss, when they see that 130 pounds (or whatever the goal weight was) simply don’t look like it used to. Many younger people are very active and along with that activity comes muscle tone and when we try to lose weight without the activity, we have the weight loss without muscle tone.

2. Guard your body from fat cell toxicity: we come in contact with a lot of toxins whether environmental, (household cleaners, air refreshers, smoke etc.) along with toxins in our food supply, water and medications. When our body recognizes a toxin, it protects the rest of the body from it with mucous or putting it in fat. And when we lose weight rapidly without an antioxidant rich diet, plenty of water and plenty of sweat, we can have some very concentrated toxic leftovers in us. This can make us look sickly even though we’re thin. These toxins can go on to create a rusting of sorts to our body parts that if not stopped can grow to a diagnosable and nameable disease. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables throughout the weight loss period and beyond will help flush these toxins from your body along with plenty of sweat and water for elimination.
